Radar technology
“Radio detection and ranging” is commonly known by its acronym “radar” and refers to a method of using radio waves to detect the location and distance of objects by measuring the time it takes the electromagnetic waves to reflect from the object. Radar has developed from what was initially a purely military application and is deployed nowadays in air traffic control, coast guard use, traffic monitoring, safety and many related areas. Active radar equipment mostly provides an image and is usually designed in the form of a pulse radar device. Primary and secondary radar systems are both common, either passively evaluating the radar echo from a target, or utilising active transponders on the target objects, which respond to incoming pulses and transmit an answering signal.
